A £8M redevelopment transforming a tenting and touring site into a luxury lodge park — achieving EPC A rating with CHP, ASHP, 22 Windcatchers, Sunpipes and a live energy monitoring display.
The Cheddar Woods Holiday Home Park opened in 2013 following a nine-month period of redevelopment. The Darwin Leisure Property Fund invested £8M to upgrade the park infrastructure, transforming it from a predominantly tenting and touring site into a luxury lodge park with extensive leisure facilities.
CD International provided a full MEP design package. Due to the constant energy demand from the leisure facilities, a CHP installation was specified alongside air source heat pumps for underfloor heating and a heat recovery system for mechanical ventilation. Where possible, natural ventilation was maximised via 22 Windcatchers. Sunpipes were installed alongside daylight dimming for light sources.
Low U-value materials were used throughout and a Green Roof was installed, producing an EPC A-rated building. The energy metering demonstrated a 10% improvement in energy consumption compared with a typical new build.
