Heating and cooling strategy for a Kentish Town church — creating two separate zones to reduce running costs while maintaining comfort for congregations, staff and visitors.
One of the most important challenges facing churches today is providing sufficient comfort for the many different users of the building, from worshippers to staff to visitors, while managing escalating maintenance and energy costs.
The proposal was to create two separate zones for heating and cooling. The adjacent space would be converted into a winter chapel and an office space for the priest, whilst the main church space's systems would be upgraded to function for larger congregations and events. This arrangement significantly reduces heating costs as the entire church space would not need to be heated at all times.
CDI provided an options study for space heating, including specifications and cost estimation for condensing boilers, radiators and underfloor heating.
